Alternative Energy is the Future of Homes
from:If you ask the man in the street what kind of mail he dislikes the most, the answer you will get is probably: "Bills!"
And you will too.
The most hated bills are gas and electic bills that make us poorer and poorer as they continue to rise.
They are a necessity of life, however.
Without them, there would be no heat or electricity in our homes.
For our modern homes to be comfortable to live in, we often have to pay a steep price.
Imagine if we didn't have to pay electric and heating bills?
That is the idea behind homes powered by alternative energy.
Using the new technology of alternative energy, these homes function without the high price tag for electricity and heat.
How does this work, you may ask?
These homes use power from different natural souces and create electricity and heat.
Using sunlight, wind, biomass and other natural sources, the energy needs of these homes can be met.
Here are the kinds of technologies they use:
Solar: This can be used to create heat and electricity.
Photovoltaic cells are mounted on the roofs of alternative energy homes and these cells convert sunlight into energy. The solar power of today is so efficient that only about 20% of the energy is wasted.
This is quite amazing.
These solar panels store the energy in batteries so that the alternate energy home still has power at night.
To heat a home most efficiently, there has to be a more complex design for the solar power.
In this case, solar collectors become one wall of the home, and the heat from the sun is stored in these collectors.
Some of these solar collectors are so powerful they can heat a home all through the winter.
Another way that alternative homes use the energy from the sun is to use the heat to turn water into steam which can run a turbine. The turbines run generators that can generate enough electricity to run the home completely!
Wind: Years ago windmills were used to grind grain.
Now the alternative energy home uses the same type of device as a windmill to power a turbine engine.
Until recently, this was not an efficient way to produce power and there was the added problem of harming birds.
New innovations in the design and technology of these devices have overcome these problems and today's windmills can make power out of a tiny breeze.
Changes in the design of the blades have made them less harmful to birds. The question may arise as to what you do when there is no wind at all.
Just the same as when solar power is used, the power can be stored from windpower in a battery and used later.
Owners of alternative energy homes never worry about brownouts because they are not reliant upon power companies' connections.
If you invest in the proper technology for your home, you can stop your reliance on old power sources and be free of bills.
That was the idea in the first place.
Since we are all looking to save money on our energy costs, alternate energy will offer a major way to do so.
You have to look at the purchase of technology for alternative energy as an investment, not an expense.
Besides being an investment in your own home, it is an investment in our world.
The need for different types of energy will bring more production of alternate energy sources, and help our problems of pollution from fossil fuel energy.
We will rely less on these types of energy as more alternative energy homes are built. Inevitably, many more people will be turning to alternative energy homes.
You could be at the vanguard of this new wave.
